Assignment #5

There are many characters in the Iliad. A few key people that took part in the Trojan war are Helen of Troy, Achilles, Paris, Hector, and Menelaus.

Helen Of Troy
Helen was considered the most beautiful women in the whole world. Helen did not make good choices, she basically started the Trojan war when Paris stole/seduced her from her husband Menelaus, and took her to Troy.

Achilles
Achilles was a very noble Greek warrior. His most accomplishing feat was killing the great warrior Hector outside the gates of Troy. Achilles was not invincible, he was killed when Paris shot him in the ankle with an arrow. Achilles was very respectable, and the best Greek soldier.

Paris
Paris, also the brother of the great warrior Hector, and is very cowardly and selfish. He took Helen, Queen of Sparta, who was already married, and went off to Troy, the setting of the Trojan war. His selfishness caused a ten year war, which he eventually lost. He was not considered a great warrior, but did manage to kill Achilles.

Hector
Hector was the Trojan version of Achilles. Despite his commanding presence in battle, Hector was actually a good natured person. He had a family whom he loved very much. I guess Hector was sort of a martyr, killing so many Greeks in the war, but claiming to love peace. Hector was the prince of Troy.

Menelaus
Menelaus was the King of Sparta, and was married to Helen of Troy, until Paris stole her. He was also a great leader in the Trojan war. Menelaus was the leader of my people, since he was the king, and had a personal dispute with the Trojans (because the prince of Troy stole his beautiful wife.)
